Tired of paying a web designer to create a website? Looking for a way to boost sales? Making a website today is just a few clicks away, and it's free. Small businesses have many new options when it comes to building a web presence. Free web design has grown up, and here is a short list of some of the best sites offering free web-building today.
Google Sites (sites.google.com)
Google Sites is a simple source for free hosting, and with a simple registration, can provide designers with a substantial number of tools, gadgets, and templates. The interface is plain, much like a word processor. The tools and building blocks are all in drop-down menus at the top. [see pics below]
The only negative might be Google's intentional attempt to make its sitebuilder heavily integrated with Picasa and other Google web-software, and that might not even be a negative. If a designer already has pics saved to Picasa, he can easily access them and place them into pages, and he can create a gallery page in seconds. The simplicity of themes or templates is also a possible negative, but since they're free, it's hard to complain too loudly.
