Over the last decade tablet notebook computers have been produced by dozens of different vendors. Almost without exception they have all more or less failed. Analysts have pointed to many different reasons for the lack of consumer interest in tablet notebooks, but now with the success of the Apple tablet , is the world ready to make the switch to tablet computers on a large scale basis?

Once again, several companies are betting on it, and over the long run some of them may provide some serious competition to the iPad in the form of tablets based on the Android operating system.

Up until now PC manufacturers have attempted to create tablet notebooks that are just as full featured and powerful as their ordinary notebook computer counterparts. One thing that can be learned from the success of the new iPad is that a tablet notebook computer does not have to be powerful or have lots of bells and whistles to provide useful applications.
